Their professional focus is Dr. Easterling was responsible for all scientific and administrative staff, formation of FY2018, FY2019, FY2020 and FY2021 directorate budgets, the development and execution of major new scientific funding initiatives including large cross-directorate programs such as Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) and Coastlines and People (CoPe). Dr. Easterling has ushered through to approval by the National Science Board initiatives to fund and construct three regional class research vessels, a major renovation of the McMurdo Station in Antarctica, and the launch of Version 2.0 of the Ocean Observing Initiative. He frequently briefed congressional committees and worked closely with congressional members to promote understanding of important research discoveries in the geosciences. He also worked with intergovernmental taskforces, mostly recently co-chairing the White House’s National Council on Science and Technology Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology., He led a fund-raising effort that yielded $106 million in philanthropy during 2007-2014 For the Future campaign, which was 115% of the College’s campaign goal of $90 million., and He oversaw the hiring, promotion and tenure procedures for 136 standing faculty members and 120 fixed-term faculty members. across 3 core areas.
