JOB TITLE: Proposal Engineer
SUMMARY: Company provides innovative CNC machine tool solutions and engineering services to manufacturers in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, defense, medical, and die/mold.
The Proposal Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end completion of high quality time studies, proposals, and innovative engineered solutions for current and potential customers. This will include analyzing drawings, specifications, RFQs, and other documentation to prepare time, labor, and material cost estimates for products and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work directly with Company sales personnel and with customers to understand each customer’s process and specifications and to develop the best solution that meets or exceeds each customer’s requirements.
Accurately interpret customer technical specifications and produce a compliant technical proposal; offering more suitable alternatives where appropriate.
Obtain a deep and thorough technical knowledge of the Company’s represented products to assure that the Company quotes the appropriate product(s) and that such product(s) will meet or exceed each customer’s requirements.
Ensure proposal pricing and estimating is consistent with the Company’s established strategies on sales and marketing, billing rates, availability of engineering resources, and proposal business terms and conditions.
Develop process sheets.
Assess cost effectiveness of engineered solutions and proposals relative to solutions submitted by competitors.
Develop process logic and time study estimates.
Create accurate pricing estimates.
Develop and maintain methods to assure proposals and time studies are completed timely, to each customer’s specifications, and with underlying cost assumptions that provide a reasonable basis for profitability should the Company obtain the order.
As required, assist Company sales engineers in presenting, recommending, and attaining purchase orders for the Company’s products and services.
Consult with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management on changes and adjustments to cost estimates and proposals.
Organize, plan, and prepare written materials to support and explain time studies and proposals and then discuss and present such documentation inperson with customer personnel.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Significant and varied knowledge/experience in manufacturing, including significant experience with CNC milling, turning, and grinding applications.
Minimum of 5 years of proposal experience or project engineering.
Proficient in AutoCAD software.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and to develop strong relationships. Superior interpersonal skills necessary to effectively work with and be a resource for an existing sales team.
Outstanding follow-up and organization skills. Requires ability to manage concurrent projects/work tasks.
