Homes for the Homeless
The mission of Homes for the Homeless is to help create lasting solutions for families experiencing homelessness through self-sufficiency planning, goal setting, and achievement. We strive to accomplish this mission by developing practical skills such as financial literacy and job readiness for parents while enriching the lives of children through educational programs, youth development, and fun recreational activities, all the while paving the path for families to move forward.
Homes for the Homeless operates Community Residential Resource Centers (CRRCs) in the Bronx and Queens in an effort to simultaneously serve both homeless families and the surrounding communities. Our CRRCs combine the basic services of a traditional shelter with a full range of inclusive programs, such as early childhood education and after-school programming, designed to meet the diverse needs of homeless families residing in the shelter or citizens from surrounding neighborhoods. HFH ensures that a family’s future can begin as soon as they walk through the doors of a Community Residential Resource Center.
In addition, HFH Summer Camps offer a welcome opportunity for children from more than 60 shelters and partnering organizations around New York City to engage in fun, healthy, and educational activities. Camps Lanowa and Wakonda, located in Harriman State Park in Upstate New York, are unique experiences that offer a true, traditional summer camp atmosphere, and are nationally accredited by the American Camps Association. Summer Camp often provides many first-time experiences for our campers, while simultaneously providing parents the chance to focus on their own progress and goals knowing their children are in caring hands.
